Some works reveal themselves quickly. Others take time to uncover what they are trying to say. Osservatrice evolved over more than eighteen months, repeatedly reaching points that felt complete before asking to become something else. Only when the final layers came together did the work reveal its subject.

The figure stands within the same textured field from which she is formed. She is inseparable from it, yet also distinct. Made from plaster, oil and enamel paint, her body both emerges from and dissolves back into its surroundings, suggesting that consciousness is never entirely separate from the world it experiences, yet is never fully confined by it.

The title, Osservatrice—Observer—speaks to the quiet awareness that can witness experience without becoming lost within it. She is both participant and observer, simultaneously part of the whole while perceiving it from beyond. She does not stand apart from the world she observes; rather, she observes it from a level of awareness that both contains it and gives rise to the experience of it.

For me, the work is a meditation on the nature of consciousness itself. It invites the viewer to step back, widen their perspective, and consider the possibility that awareness belongs to something larger than the reality we ordinarily perceive. Through that awareness we may, however briefly, experience ourselves as both participant and observer, inhabiting the world while glimpsing the greater whole beyond it.
