Christina Ayer

I create contemporary paintings and mixed-media works that investigate the patterns and connections found throughout nature, human experience and the universe.

I am inspired by the recurring structures and rhythms shared by each of these, suggesting an underlying order that connects all things.

Through an experimental process using paint, plaster, cement, fabric, resin and other materials, I explore the expressive possibilities of texture and movement, allowing the materials themselves to shape the final work.

I hope my work encourages people to pause, look more deeply, and rediscover a sense of connection, curiosity and wonder.

Originally from Canada, I studied Arts at McGill University in Montreal before making Italy my home more than twenty-five years ago. For over two decades, I have worked professionally as a mosaic artist.

Alongside mosaic, I have always written, sculpted and painted, but only in recent years have I given myself permission to share this more personal side of my creative practice. I now live near Lake Garda with my family, where tending my vegetable garden and spending time at my cabin in the woods gives me the quiet and perspective to notice the structures, rhythms and connections in nature that inspire my work.

Over the course of my career, I have worked on mosaic projects ranging from private commissions to international architectural works, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Abraj Al Bait Clock Tower in Mecca. My work has been exhibited in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Hungary and the United States through juried, collective and solo exhibitions, most recently Fluire, my 2025 solo exhibition in Vestone, Italy. While mosaic remains an important part of my practice, my recent focus has been on developing a growing body of contemporary paintings and mixed-media works that continue the same lifelong search for the structures, rhythms and connections that inspire my work.
